About Sophie
Sophie is a freelance cellist and teacher based in Greenwich, London. Growing up in Lincolnshire, she pursued her passion for music as an undergraduate at Durham University, graduating with a first in 2020.
She later studied the cello at master's level at Trinity Laban conservatoire, with Sally Pendlebury and David Cohen. Sophie also has a PGCEI in group instrumental teaching, from Birmingham City University.
Sophie was mentored by the London Symphony Orchestra for a two-year period on the ‘LSO Pathways’ scheme, focusing on developing her cello playing and orchestral skills, with tuition from Eve-Marie Caravasillis.
Following this, she gained a place on the Royal Opera House's ‘Overture’ mentoring scheme, where she gained experience in opera and ballet, and worked with the conductors Antonio Pappano, Jakub Hrůša, and Koen Kessels.
Her cello journey also included studying with Sue Lowe and Tim Lowe, and she has been attending the International Cello Gathering Course every year since 2018. Here she had masterclasses from notable cellists such as Jonathan Aasgaard, Martin Johnson, Louise Hopkins, and Adrian Brendel.

Sophie is a keen chamber musician, frequently performing in venues in and around London, with her piano trio recently performing at Wigmore Hall and the Polish Hearth Club. She also performs regularly with her duo partner, including at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, and at the British Isles Music Festival last year.
